Design Size
Each charm transfer design measures approximately ½ to ¾ inch and fits most small polymer clay charm cutters.
For the best results, use white or light-colored clay so the printed colors remain bright and clear. My preferred clay is Sculpey Premo™ White.
How to Apply the Transfers
- Roll your white or light-colored polymer clay to approximately 4mm thick.
- Use scissors to cut the transfer designs into small individual squares.
- Place the clay on a ceramic tile. Cover it with parchment paper and gently burnish the surface to make sure the clay is firmly adhered to the tile.
- Using rubber-tipped tweezers, place each transfer onto the clay with the printed ink side facing down.
- Cover the transfers with parchment paper and gently burnish again to ensure the entire design is making contact with the clay.
- Lightly spray the paper transfers with water using a fine-mist spray bottle.
- Allow the transfers to sit for 5–10 minutes.
- Rinse away the water-soluble paper under a gentle stream of warm water. Direct the water onto the tile or unused clay and allow it to run over the designs. Avoid letting the water stream hit the transferred ink directly.
- Once all paper residue has been removed, use your clay cutters to cut around each design.
- Remove the excess clay, bake according to your clay manufacturer’s instructions, and repeat!
- Once baked rub charms gently in a bowl of water to remove any transfersheet residue.
- Seal with UV Resin or a Water Based Polyurethane.
Helpful Tips
Spray enough water to fully saturate the transfer paper. Make sure the design is completely burnished onto the clay before spraying.
Handle the transferred designs gently while rinsing. The ink may be delicate until the clay has been baked and sealed.
Because the designs are approximately ½ to ¾ inch, cutter size and shape may affect how much of the surrounding artwork is included in your finished charm.
